Talented and Gifted (TAG)

District TAG Mission and Vision
Reynolds School District is committed to an educational program that recognizes, identifies, and serves the unique needs of talented and gifted (TAG) students. Talented and gifted students are those who have been identified as intellectually gifted and/or academically talented according to Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) 581-022-2325. The district is committed to addressing ethnic, racial and socio-economic disproportionality in the identification of students as talented and gifted. The district will continually work toward providing academic programs and services that accommodate the assessed levels and accelerated rates of learning of identified TAG students.

TAG students in Reynolds demonstrate a pattern of exceptional ability, performance, or achievement when compared to similar age peers nationally and in the local district community. Identification decisions are based on a robust body of evidence that considers a child’s background, experiences, and opportunities to learn.

Reynolds School District ensures that all students from all populations in the District have access to the TAG assessment process and, if identified, receive TAG services. Each fall, all third-grade students will have an opportunity to take an assessment for potential TAG eligibility and in the spring, all second-grade students will be assessed. Please see the TAG Assessments Information page for more details.

Students who are not in second or third grade may be referred for TAG eligibility. If you would like to refer a student, please complete the Talented and Gifted Student Survey. Arrangements will be made with the student's teacher and school to conduct TAG testing and gather additional evidence for eligibility. The identification team will meet and parents and teachers will be notified of student eligibility.

Once students are identified, TAG services are provided by teachers accommodating the assessed levels and accelerated rates of learning of TAG students. Each school has a building TAG coordinator who provides support as needed and maintains communication between the school and district TAG department.

For more information, please see the District TAG Plan. You may also contact your building TAG coordinator (see list below) or Christine Taylor, District TAG Specialist.
