The district shall use standard precautions at all times for infection control. Each person is therefore treated as though an HIV, AIDS or HBV [1] infection exists.

In cases of sudden illness or injury to a student or staff member, first aid will be given by school staff. Further medical attention to students is the parents’ responsibility, or of someone the parents designate in case of emergency.

Each principal is charged with providing for the immediate care of ill or injured persons within his/her area of responsibility.

District Safety Officer

The superintendent shall designate a district safety officer. The safety officer shall:

Safety committees and a centralized safety committee shall be established to implement the district’s safety program as part of an ongoing effort to help ensure the safety of students, staff and others while on district property.

The superintendent or designee will coordinate the district’s safety committee efforts and maintain all necessary records.

Safe buildings, grounds and equipment will be maintained in order to prevent accidents or injury to students, employees and others from fire, natural disasters, mechanical and electrical malfunction and other hazards.

Buildings will be planned, constructed, equipped and maintained in accordance with appropriate local, state and federal safety regulations.

Disposition

If any building has surplus equipment or material no longer needed the director of business services shall approve the disposition based on the following priorities:

Money collected within school buildings will be taken to the building’s designated depository when the sum accumulated in any one day by a class, a teacher or others at any school exceeds $25.

Accumulated cash maintained in school buildings overnight must follow the guidelines of the financial procedures manual.
