In the News: Three new Reynolds schools near completion

By Teresa Carson, The Gresham Outlook
August 3, 2018

Reynolds will show off its three new elementary schools and high school remodel later in August with ribbon cuttings and parties.

The schools have been in the process of design and construction for several years, and students will be learning in the shiny new buildings in September.

The Reynolds School District replaced Troutdale, Fairview and Wilkes elementary schools as part of a building program paid for by a $125 million bond voters approved in May 2015

In Lieu of Landfill, District Donates Thousands of Pieces of Furniture to Relief Efforts Across the Globe

Standing behind their commitment to socially and environmentally responsible policies, Reynolds School District has partnered with The IRN Reuse Network to donate surplus furniture from the elementary school replacement projects to communities in need in both Africa and Latin America.

The furniture comes from the old Wilkes, Troutdale, and Fairview Elementary schools which are being replaced. The district kept all furniture that could be reused in schools and elsewhere around the district and donated about 2,500 pieces that were deemed surplus. To give this furniture a new life for students in need, the District worked with nonprofit organizations through IRN to send the furniture to schools in Burundi, Chad, Haiti and El Salvador. Students in these communities will be able to benefit from this furniture for years to come.
