In the News: School building boom thunders

By Teresa Carson, The Gresham Outlook (Read full article on The Outlook's site.)

Eight new or largely remodeled schools on their way in Reynolds and Gresham-Barlow School districts.

A construction worker jabs a 90-pound jackhammer into the concrete floor in what used to be the health room of Reynolds High School. A gaggle of workers grab up the slabs of concrete weighing hundreds of pounds and sling them onto a hand truck for removal.

This labor is a tiny part of the $416.2 million school building boom fueled by bonds voters approved for the Reynolds and Gresham-Barlow School Districts. More than 8,000 kids attend the eight local schools that will be completely replaced or substantially remodeled, and two dozen more will be improved. Voters gave a thumbs up to a $125 million bond for Reynolds School District in May 2015 and a $291.2 million bond for the Gresham-Barlow School District in November 2016.

Senior Signing Day 2017

Senior Signing Day is an event inspired from Michelle Obama's initiative, Reach Higher.  The day is all about recognizing our seniors who have made a decision to do something after high school.  Students had either declared that they are going into the military and/or that they will be going to a community college/trade school/technical school/college/university.  The National Decision Day to declare what you are doing after high school was May 1, 2017 and our Reynolds Senior Signing Day was just before, on April 25th, 2017.

Senior Awards Night 2017

Senior Awards Night, held on June 7, 2017 showcased our seniors who have received institutional scholarships, outside scholarships, awards, and admission into a college or university.  Students had to show proof of acceptance into a postsecondary school and proof that they were a recipient of an award/scholarship prior to the event.  These exceptional students pulled in a grand total of $9,318,516 in scholarship dollars, one of the most impressive amounts ever at Reynolds High School.
