Updated: 5/26/12

Schools will reopen on Tuesday, May 29 with a two-hour late start and NO AM Kindergarten to allow you time to check in to your building and prepare your classrooms to meet students.  Welcome back teachers!

Dear Reynolds Staff,

I know that everyone is deeply affected by the looming strike deadline. I want to take this time to remind all of us that we care deeply about students and our colleagues. Please be kind to one another. This is a sensitive time, affecting all of us: students, staff, parents and our communities. I hope we will work together without interruption. If there is a strike, we will work together again…very likely soon. Kindness will go a long way to lighten the burdens of today.

OVERVIEW

Even though we will not hold regular school for the duration of the strike, a few replacement teachers are needed to finish the school year. Should a teacher strike occur on Monday, May 21, 2012, school will be closed from Monday, May 21 through Friday, May 25, except Reynolds High School and Reynolds Learning Academy which will have consultation and senior check out on Thursday and Friday, May 24-25. The consultation will either clear students to graduate or establish plans for seniors to have an opportunity to meet graduation requirements.

Summer meal sites will be opened early to provide lunch to students starting as early as Wednesday, May 23 and throughout the work stoppage or until June 13, whichever comes first. This will be staffed with non-REA staff reporting for duty.

EXPECTATIONS

Please open the attached letters according to your work group (licensed REA members, licensed staff who do not belong to REA, classified staff, and coaches). It outlines the check out procedures for licensed employees and expectations for staff required to report to work during the strike.

All employees who are not members of the REA are to report to their regular work locations at the regularly-scheduled time on each strike day, unless instructed otherwise by a supervisor. Duties will be assigned by a building administrator or supervisor.

WORKING TOWARD SETTLEMENT

While we must prepare for a possible strike, it is my sincere wish that this will be resolved in advance of the strike deadline. Please take care of yourselves, your colleagues and your students.

With kindness,

Joyce Henstrand
Superintendent
