Permanent Living Memorial: Tree Planting Application & Process
Purpose
Reynolds School District (RSD) allows for permanent living memorials, such as planting trees, to honor and remember staff, students, or community members who have served the district. Permanent memorials require superintendent (or designee) approval per Board Policy FFA: Memorials and Scholarships.
This guide provides staff with an easy process and application form.
Process
1. Discuss the Idea
Identify the individual to be honored. Confirm the concept with your building principal for initial support.
2. Complete Application
Fill out the application below. Include proposed location, tree species, funding, and maintenance plan.
3. Superintendent / Designee Approval
Superintendent or designee will review for feasibility, safety, appropriateness of location, and give final approval. Director of Facilities consulted for site suitability (utilities, visibility, root spread, etc.). Approval must be obtained before planting or purchasing.
Please note that this step may take longer than expected to ensure that all of the above requirements are carefully considered. Approval will be emailed directly to applicant.
4. Family Communication (recommended)
Once approved, school administration should notify the family of the deceased and invite input or participation in dedication.
5. Planting & Dedication
Once approved, tree is obtained and planted in coordination with Facilities. Optional dedication ceremony may be held but not required.
7. Ongoing Care
Memorial trees become property of RSD.
