Spanish Heritage Month

On Friday, October 2nd 2015, Ms Forestell’s and Ms Hamilton’s ELD classes celebrated Spanish Heritage Month by inviting guests to their classroom. Erika Pinzon, Reynolds ELD Parent & Community Liaison (Spanish) brought two parents, Graciela Hernandez and Gloria Pacheaco , to honor and celebrate our Spanish speaking community. We learned how to make tortillas from corn flour (maize) and an authentic, and spicy, salsa using a stone mortar and pestle. The afternoon included playing a family game from Mexico called “La Loteria” and, of course, a game of soccer, or fotbol.

The reauthorized Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004) requires each State Education Agency to develop a six-year State Performance Plan (SPP). States are also required to report annually on progress in accomplishing the targeted goals of the SPP. The Oregon Department of Education uses a report format as one medium for disseminating this required information to the public.
