The Reynolds School District is proud to announce the 2018 class of inductees to the Athletics Hall of Fame. Our annual banquet will be held on Friday, November 16th at McMemamins Edgefield.

2018 Inductees

Darren Brady (Reynolds HS, 1978 – 1982)

Darren was a two-sport standout for the Lancers, earning eight varsity letters in tennis and basketball. In tennis, Darren helped lead the team to three straight Wilco League titles and was a three-time all-conference finisher, including winning the league singles title as a junior. In basketball, Darren was a two-time team captain. As a senior, he was selected 1st Team All-League, All-Metro and All-State, finishing runner-up for Oregon Player of the Year. Darren was also a standout in the classroom, earning a 3.94 cumulative GPA. After Reynolds, he attended Brown University, where he was a 4-time letterman in basketball. During his senior year at Brown, Darren was selected co-captain and earned Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors. He also helped lead the Bears to the Ivy League title and the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, which was the first team in school history to do so. Darren and the 1986 team were later inducted into the Brown University Athletic Hall of Fame. 

Debbie Swoboda (Columbia HS & Reynolds HS, 1988 – 2017)

Coach Swoboda started at Columbia in 1988 as a member of their physical education staff and also served as the Chargers head softball coach. Prior to that, she was the head volleyball coach at Corbett High School, where she led the Cardinals to five state championships. When Columbia and Reynolds combined in 1989, coach Swoboda took over the new Reynolds Raiders volleyball program. She went on to coach the Raiders for 24 seasons. During that time, coach Swoboda led her teams to 13 state playoff appearances, including two top-8 finishes and a school best 5th place finish in 2003. In a very competitive Mt. Hood Conference, Coach Swoboda earned Coach of the Year honors and was also selected twice as the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association (OACA) Coach of the Year. After retiring from teaching and coaching volleyball, coach Swoboda served as the varsity softball assistant coach for the Raiders and helped the team reach the state quarterfinals in back-to-back seasons.

Katie Swoboda (Reynolds HS, 2001 – 2005)

Katie was an eight-time varsity letterman for the Raiders in volleyball and track & field. In volleyball, she was a two-time team captain, a three-time 1st Team All-Mt. Hood Conference selection and voted the MHC Player of the Year as a senior. She also earned 2nd Team All-State honors as a junior and 1st Team All-State honors as a senior. She led the Raiders to two state tournament appearances, including a 5th place finish her senior year, a school best. She was also twice selected to the state All-Tournament Team. After Reynolds, Katie accepted a full volleyball scholarship from the University of Oregon. She was a three-time Honorable Mention All-Pac 10 selection, a two-time team MVP and one of three liberos to be nominated for the Pac-12 All-Century Team. Katie also holds numerous school records in digs for the Ducks and is ranked 4th all-time for the Pac-12 in career digs. 

Richard Franklin (Reynolds HS, 1967 – 1971)

Rick was a work horse on the wrestling mat during his four years as a Lancer, earning three varsity letters. As a junior, Rick was the Wilco League Champion in the 130-lb weight class. At the state meet, he was the 3rd place finisher and helped lead the Lancers to a 3rd place finish in the overall team standings. After Reynolds, Rick went on to wrestle at Mt. Hood Community College, being selected All-Conference twice and finishing 3rd at the 1974 NWAAC tournament at 142-lbs.. He went on to wrestle at Pacific University, winning the 1978 NAIA National Championship at 142-lbs. Rick was inducted into the Pacific University Hall of Fame and the Northwest Conference (NAIA District 2) Hall of Fame in 1991. He was inducted into the Mt. Hood Community College and NWAAC Junior College Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2009, Rick was inducted into the Oregon Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Valerie Fletcher (Reynolds HS, 1995 – 1999)    

Valerie earned eight varsity letters for the Raiders in basketball and soccer.  In basketball, she was selected 2nd Team All-Mt. Hood Conference as a senior.  In soccer, she earned All-Conference Honors each of her four seasons, including 1st Team Honors three times.  During her senior campaign, she served as the team captain and was selected 1st Team All-State. Valerie was also very accomplished in the classroom, earning the President’s Educational Excellence Award as well as numerous academic scholarships.  After Reynolds, Valerie accepted a scholarship to play soccer at the University of Portland for former Reynolds boys soccer coach, Clive Charles.  Valerie played four years for the Pilots, helping them earn the West Coast Conference title in 2000 as well as three NCAA tournament appearances.  In 2002, Valerie was a member of the Pilots’ NCAA Division I National Championship team, the first in any sport for U of P.  Valerie and the 2002 team were later inducted into the U of P Hall of Fame as well as the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
