Hall of Fame Class of 2016

The Reynolds School District is proud to announce the 2016 class of inductees to the Athletics Hall of Fame.

Dan Carlson (1985 – 1988):  Dan was an eight-time varsity letterman for the Lancers in football, wrestling and baseball, earning multiple all-conference honors.  In baseball, he helped lead the Lancers to the first Mt. Hood Conference title and also earned all-state honors.  Dan’s dedication and work ethic was unmatched.  After Reynolds, Dan went on to pitch for the Mt. Hood Community College baseball team, earning multiple All-NWAC honors.  He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 1990, making his Major League debut in 1996.  He spent four years in the Majors playing for San Francisco as well as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Scott Carpenter (1968 – 1972):  Scott was a three-sport standout for the Lancers in football, basketball and baseball, earning seven varsity letters and multiple All-Wilco League honors.  In basketball, he helped lead the Lancers to two Wilco League titles, including his senior year when he received all-state honors.  Scott was the epitome of leadership, being selected team captain in all three sports, five times overall. After Reynolds, Scott went on to compete at Linfield College, playing baseball for a year, but eventually focusing on basketball, where he was a four-time letterman, three-time team captain and part of two Northwest Conference Championships.
Krystal Saling (1997 – 2001):   Krystal earned an astonishing twelve varsity letters for the Raiders in soccer, basketball and track and field, receiving multiple All-Mt. Hood Conference honors.  In track and field, she won numerous conference championships and qualified for the state meet four years in a row in various events, including the 4x100m relay, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles and pole vault.  As a senior, she was the state runner-up in the pole vault and voted the Reynolds Female Athlete of the Year.  After Reynolds, Krystal received a track and field scholarship from Idaho State University and also competed in soccer.  She transferred after two years to Mt. Hood Community College and eventually Portland State, where she still holds the indoor record in the pole vault with the height of 11-4.
Denny Walter (1962 – 1966):  Denny was a seven-time varsity letterman for the Lancers in football, basketball and baseball.  In football, he earned multiple All-Wilco League honors.  As a senior, he was co-captain of the 1965 football team, helping lead them to the Wilco League title, 2nd place in state and was selected to participate in the Shriner’s All-Star football game.  He earned 1st Team All-State honors and was voted “Most Athletic” by his Lancer classmates.  Denny went on to become a four-year letterman in football at Lewis & Clark College, helping lead the Pioneers to three-consecutive Northwest Conference Championships while receiving All-Conference honors as a sophomore, junior and senior, including All-American honors as a senior.  He was inducted into the Lewis & Clark Hall of Fame in 1989.
The 1981-82 Columbia Boys Gymnastics Team:  Arguably the most successful Chargers Athletics program during the existence of Columbia High School was the boys gymnastics program.  They reached their pinnacle during the 1981-82 season. Led by coach Scott Robinson and 2012 Reynolds Hall of Fame Inductee Wendell Wetzel, Columbia won the Wilco League title with a 6-0-record record and first place finish at the district meet.  They went on to dominate the state meet, earning the first and only state championship for Columbia.  Team members: Mark Alexander, Glen Anderson, Bret King, Derek Lutz, Ted Lutz, Wendell Wetzel and head coach Scott Robinson.
