2019 Beat the Odds Scholars Honored at Awards Ceremony

Stand for Children

Congratulations to two very special RHS seniors who were selected as 2019 Beat the Odds Scholars: Jose Pasaye Marcela and Christina Saada were recognized for overcoming insurmountable challenges to achieve academic success and greatness! Each student will receive a scholarship award of $4,000 per year for up to four years to help pay for their college expenses. Way to go, Jose and Christina...you're an inspiration to all!

Jose grew up dreaming of becoming a professional soccer player, but became stricken with a rare illness that put him in a wheelchair. Now his goal is to study computer science and score a job at Nike or Microsoft.

 
Christina BTO 2019

 

 

Christina witnessed extreme violence before she and her family fled Syria to escape the escalating threat of ISIS. She saw surgeons save lives, and now she wants to become one. 

 

 

Despite the different hardships, turmoil, and heartache teens awarded this scholarship have faced, they share this: They're exceptional students, courageous human beings, and Stand for Children's 2019 Beat the Odds scholarship recipients.
