REA Negotiations Update: April 27, 2012

The Reynolds School District and the Reynolds Education Association bargaining teams met for the fourth mediation session on Friday, April 27, 2012 starting at Noon and ending at 8:15pm. The total time at the bargaining table is over 75 hours.

The District presented a full proposal to the Reynolds Education Association. The Association presented a proposal, and the District made a second proposal in response. See the attachments for offer details. The District agreed to make corrections in the final offer to reflect proposed language that was inadvertently not included in the required publication on April 19, 2012. A list of the corrections in the district offer is attached.

The District proposals included language concessions that the Association said were amongst the most important, including: preparation time, unsigned complaints and the continuance clause. The details of the proposals exchanged are attached.

The parties are scheduled to meet again on Thursday, May 3, 2012 and May 10, 2012 from 9am to 3pm. The Reynolds School Board is committed to meeting with or without the mediator to resolve our differences within the 30-day cooling off period.

The Reynolds School Board asked for more time to consider the financial implications and the value of balancing the needs of students, staff and  the community.  The board wants to offer students a full school year and a full complement of programs and maintain as many jobs as possible.
