Service Project: Construction Mats for Homeless using Recycled Bags

Service project making mats from recycled bags for the homeless. The mat provides a waterproof barrier and some cushion to their sleeping bags on the cold, hard ground.  Nearly 1 in every 10 Reynolds students are identified as Homeless.  As autumn turns to winter, this will be a great volunteer service project help our Reynolds families.  Please feel free to share this e-mail with other groups, friends, etc.

A community partner, Anthem Church (the old Bally’s gym on 223rd & Halsey) has offered their facility on Saturday, December 3rd from 9am-3pm.

Please bring a dish to share for a potluck.  You don’t have to know how to crochet. See the YouTube “How To” link below. There will be prep work required to get the bags folded, cut and wrapped into “skeins of yarn”.

As for plastic bags, Fred Meyer has donated some. Yet please feel free to drop off  bags that are cluttering up your kitchen drawer to the District office any time prior to December 3, so some of us can begin some prep work beforehand.

Please come, bring a friend and help our families in need this upcoming season.   Contact Jamie Cochran at jcochran@rsd7.net with questions.
