RSD Test Administration Quick Help

RSD Test Administration Quick Help

This documentation is to support Test Administrators when administering Smarter Balanced Assessments.

Always check www.oaksportal.org for new updates and documentation for Test Administrators

1      Logistics

There are a few logistical steps that can be followed by test administrators to reduce the amount of issues that can happen with equipment during testing.

Ensure that laptops are being charged between tests.

Have a student/volunteer/staff member return laptops to their cart if there is going to be an extended amount of time between tests.

Shutdown Computers/Laptops at the end of the day

Computers that go to sleep for a prolonged period of time will have issues if the OAK's browser was left open. This happens with Network Connectivity and students will not be able to sign into the test.

Turn on computers and turn on the OAKS Browser before students enter the room.

Because some computers are older than others it is wise to have them turned on with the OAK's browser already opened before students enter the room. This will prevent idle time while waiting for the computers to load.

Check for Updates when performing a Restart

When a laptop or computer needs to be restarted please check for the “update and restart” option. If you see this option please place the student at another machine as this update process can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes to complete.

2      Common Technical Issues

Pop-Up Blockers During Sign On for Administrator

By default most Internet browsers will block pop-ups. Please ensure that you are using Google Chrome/Firefox/Safari when logging in as an administrator
Follow the following steps to disable the pop-block features in these different browsers:

Firefox: Tools > Options > Content > uncheck “Block pop-up windows”

Google Chrome: Menu > Settings > Show advanced settings (at the bottom of the screen) > Privacy > Content Settings > Pop-ups > click “Allow all sites to show pop-ups” o For the Chrome browser on Android tablets: § Menu > Settings > Advanced > Content Settings > Block pop-ups > uncheck box

Safari: Application Menu (Safari) > Block Pop-Up Windows (make sure this is unchecked) · iOS Safari: Settings > Safari > Block Pop-ups (make sure toggle is set to “off” mode)

OAKS Browser is Frozen

Windows Users: Press Ctr+Alt+Del and then select “Task Manager”

Find the Oaks browser on the list of processes, select it using the mouse, and then press “End Task”
This will close the program and you can then re-open it.

Apple Users: Press Command+Option+Escape

Select the Oaks Browser in the menu and click “Force Quit”
If this is unsuccessful then choose the “Apple” icon in the top left corner and then select “Force Quit”

Keyboard is locked

Windows Users: First press the “caps lock” key to ensure that the keyboard is responsive. The Caps lock light should turn on and off when you do this. If this does not happen then you will need to submit a Support Ticket

Press 0 or 1 at the top of your keyboard multiple times until there is response again. This is due to a bug in OAKS Browser 7.0 with the Windows Key

Apple Users: Your keyboard should never lock.
