Makers Gone Pro Event Scheduled October 6, 2016

The Center for Advanced Learning (CAL) will celebrate National Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) with a Makers Go Pro Event. This is one way CAL and Oregon Manufacturing Extension Partnership (OMEP) are teaming up with various education, workforce and manufacturing stakeholders across Oregon to host free educational events, tours and job fairs for high school students to learn about careers in manufacturing. MFG Day is designed to expand knowledge about high-skilled, high-paying jobs in the sector and the industry’s economic impact in Oregon and around the country. It also encourages schools to consider recommending vocational education for more students to pursue after high school
graduation.

Makers Gone Pro – Center for Advanced Learning (CAL), 1484 NW Civic Dr., Gresham.
Thursday, Oct. 6, 4-6:30 p.m.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will moderate a manufacturing
roundtable discussion and Q&A beginning at 4:30 p.m. The panel will include four
recent Oregon high school graduates who pursued technical careers.
For the third year in a row, multiple stakeholders in East Multnomah County will be
coordinating Makers Gone Pro. Through fun and engaging hands-on activities, this event
provides students and community members an opportunity to understand and learn about
the world of making things, and how these activities relate to the Portland region’s robust
manufacturing sector.
