Agreement Approved: Settlement Details

Reynolds School Board Approves New Collective Bargaining Agreement with Teachers

Tentative agreement was reached in mediation between the Reynolds School District and the Reynolds Education Association, ending a five-day strike at about 6am on Saturday, May 26 after an all night bargaining session.

The Board approved the agreement at their workshop session on May 30, 2012.

“It is a pleasure to have students and teachers back in school. I have spent the past two mornings visiting schools and seeing teachers hard at work doing what they do best... teaching,” said Superintendent Dr. Joyce Henstrand. The settlement assures that the District remains solvent and addresses the concerns of teachers and administrators with language changes.

"The informal process that was used Thursday, Friday and Saturday did more than provide an end to the strike, it strengthened the understanding between the two parties. Moving forward I am confident that negotiations can go more smoothly in the future. I believe that we will heal quickly and move forward together to benefit students and the community," added Dr. Henstrand.

The REA membership approved the agreement with 98.2% support. The Reynolds School Board approved the contract, with a 6-1 vote.

The final offer includes language changes and salary and benefit increases for teachers. Details of the agreement are included in the attachments.
