Reynolds School District Earns the Meritorious Budget Award for 2014-15 Budget

The Reynolds School District has been awarded the Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in budget presentation during the 2014-2015 budget year by the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).   The award is based on meeting best practices criteria in four areas: General Requirements;  Introductory Section;  Organizational Section; and the Financial Section. Reynolds School District met the criteria in all four sections, which means that the resources are spent in alignment with the organization’s goals and objectives and that the document is reader-friendly.

The MBA Criteria Checklist provides a foundation for developing a reader-friendly budget document that:

  • Presents clear budget guidelines.
  • Promotes communication between departments and the community.
  • Encourages short- and long-range budget goals.
  • Supports effective use of educational resources.

This award reflects our district’s commitment to sound fiscal management practices and represents a significant achievement for us, our staff, and the whole Reynolds School District. The 2015-16 Fiscal Responsibility Goal includes actions that focus upon a transparent, sound and responsible financial plan that focuses resources to the classroom and advances student achievement, supports family/community involvement and promotes school safety. “This award reflects the high quality financial management that the district has attained,” said Superintendent Linda Florence. The award is tangible evidence of these ongoing efforts to use resources strategically to support students well.

The Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) program promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and enhances school business officials’ skills in developing, analyzing, and presenting a school system budget. After a rigorous review by professional auditors, the award is conferred only on school districts that have met or exceeded the program’s stringent criteria.
