Attendance Matters

ATTENDANCE POLICY

“Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job.”

Reynolds Middle School hours are:

Mondays > 8:40 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Tuesdays – Fridays > 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Regular Attendance

The State of Oregon and Reynolds School District expect children to attend school on a regular basis, with acceptable attendance being between 90% - 94.9% and good attendance being 95% or better. Reynolds Middle School recognizes that these expectations may be difficult for some families to attain; and we have a team of administrators, counselors, community partners, social workers, and secretaries to work with families who may need support to keep their children engaged in school.

Absences

If a student is absent, we request that a parent or guardian report the absence by calling the school at 503.665.8166. Bi-lingual Spanish/English secretaries are available. Russian-speaking families may leave a voicemail by asking for Extension 3568. Automated calls to the families of students with unexcused absences are made at approximately 9:35 a.m. Tues-Friday and 10:45 a.m. on Late Start Mondays.

Due to the continuing pandemic, we ask that students who are running a fever of 100.4 or above remain at home.

Late Arrival

It is recommended that students arrive at school 5 to 10 minutes early as they are expected to be in their seats and ready to learn by the school start bell.
