About MYC

MYC is a full-time Natural Resources Career and Technical Education program at the Reynolds Learning Academy (RLA) where students work towards an Oregon High School Diploma while gaining valuable work experience that prepares participants for post high school goals. Students spend time learning in traditional classroom settings, as well as out in the community engaging in field experiences. The MYC Program is a collaboration between educators, community partners and businesses, MYC staff, and students. We are open to all students in the Reynolds School District in grades 10-graduation.

Reynolds School District is dedicated to closing the opportunity gap and creating learning communities that provide support and academic enrichment programs for all students. Additionally, the district believes that it is the right of every student to have an equitable educational experience within the Reynolds School District. The concept of educational equity goes beyond formal equality where all students are treated the same. Educational equity fosters a barrier-free environment in which all students, regardless of race, ethnicity, class, or other personal characteristics such as creed, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, primary language, age, economic status, immigration status, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy status, marital status, criminal history, physical appearance, the presence of any sensory, mental or physical disability, or the use of a service animal by a person with a disability, have the opportunity to benefit equally.

Courses
Technical Math

Technical Mathematics courses extend students' proficiency in mathematics, and often apply these skills to technical and/or industrial situations and problems. Technical Mathematics topics may include but are not limited to rational numbers; systems of measurements; tolerances; numerical languages; geometry; algebra; statistics; and using tables, graphs, charts, and other data displays. Technology is integrated as appropriate.

Technical Writing

Research/Technical Writing classes prepare students to write research papers and/or technical reports. These classes emphasize researching (primary and secondary sources), organizing (material, thoughts, and arguments), and writing in a persuasive or technical style.

PNW Ecology

Pacific Northwest Ecology courses examine the mutual relationships between organisms and their environment in the PNW. In studying the interrelationships among plants, animals, and humans, these courses usually cover the following subjects: photosynthesis, recycling and regeneration, ecosystems, population and growth studies, pollution, and conservation of natural resources.

MYC Natural Resources

Comprehensive courses may cover a wide range of topics concerning the fields of ecology and conservation with planning for the efficient use and preservation of land, water, wildlife, and forests. Within the general area of natural resources management, these courses usually cover specific topics and uses, such as hunting or fishing preserves, safe usage initiatives, forest production and management, wildlife preservation, and commercial use of natural resources.

MYC Work Experience

Workplace Experience courses provide students with work experience in fields related to natural resources. Goals are typically set cooperatively by the student, teacher, and employer (although students are not necessarily paid). These courses may include classroom activities as well, involving further study of the field or discussion regarding experiences that students encounter in the workplace; help students identify and evaluate personal goals, priorities, aptitudes, and interests with the goal of helping them make informed decisions about their career and expose students to various sources of information on career and training options and may also assist them in developing job search and employability skills.

MYC Wellness

MYC Wellness combines the topics of Health Education courses (nutrition, stress management, substance abuse prevention, disease prevention, first aid, and so on) with an active fitness component (typically including aerobic activity and fitness circuits) with the intention of conveying the importance of life-long wellness habits.
