RHS Transitioning to Short-Term Comprehensive Distance Learning

RHS Transitioning to Short-Term Comprehensive Distance Learning

The safety and security of our students, families, staff, and the community is the District’s highest priority as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.  As we have welcomed all students back into the school building beginning last week, Reynolds High School staff and students have been vigilant in following all safety protocols to the extent possible.

Community spread of the COVID-19 virus continues and while the number of students or staff who have tested positive are small, these cases have required large numbers of students to quarantine due to possible exposure in the last few days.  As more students are required to quarantine and learn from home while other students are learning in the classroom, teachers are unable to provide education in both in-person and virtual environments at the same time.  Therefore, Reynolds High School is transitioning to temporary Short-Term Comprehensive Distance Learning effective immediately to allow us the opportunity to make operational changes to minimize future impacts of exposures.

There will be no school on Thursday, September 16 and Friday, September 17 to make this transition, and Short-Term Comprehensive Distance Learning will begin on Monday, September 20th and continue through Friday, September 24th.  At this time, students are expected to return to in-person learning again on September 27th.

***Meals will be available for curbside pickup at Reynolds High School on September 16-17 and 20-24. Meal service is 11:30am-12:30pm. Meals are for RHS students only – student or parent must give their name and student ID #. Masks are required.

Over the next week and a half while students are at home, Reynolds High School will be implementing the following operational processes designed to lessen the impact of future exposure and quarantine events:

  • Vaccination Declaration:  We will be asking families to voluntarily provide vaccination status for their RHS students.  If we have confirmed fully vaccinated status for a student, they may not be required to quarantine in the event of a future exposure.  More information will be coming soon on how you can submit your student’s vaccination record.

  • Reinforced Seating Charts for Classrooms and Buses:  We will be implementing reinforced seating charts for classrooms and buses to allow for more accurate exposure contact tracing and quarantine protocols.

  • No Spectators at Sporting Events:  To decrease potential community spread, we will be limiting sporting events to players, coaches, and support staff only.  No spectators will be allowed at sporting events until further notice.

We understand this may be an inconvenience at this time. We appreciate your support and patience as we quickly implement operational procedures which may allow more students to continue in-person classes in the near future.

We are also asking our families to help.  You can continue to stop community spread of COVID-19 by:

  • Get vaccinated: anyone 12 and older can get a safe, free COVID-19 vaccine.  To find a local vaccination clinic or event, go here
  • Wear a mask indoors in public, outdoors in public when in a crowd, and when around people who may not be vaccinated.
  • Get together outdoors when around family and friends you don’t live with.
  • If your student or anyone in your household is sick, they need to stay home.
  •  If the sick person has a cough, fever, shortness of breath, or new loss of taste or smell, they and everyone in the household should get tested for COVID-19

Thank you, in advance, for your help in ensuring that we are able to effectively and safely provide in-person instruction to every student in Reynolds School District.  If you have any questions, please contact Reynolds High School at (503) 667-3186.
