ATTENDANCE GUIDANCE

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY ATTENDANCE?

Attendance counts every day your student participates in activities with a teacher or an educational assistant who works with the teacher. Attendance counts every time your student contacts a teacher.

WHAT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES COUNT?

  • Participating in a video class
  • Posting completed work in Schoology, StudentVUE, or via email
  • Turning in completed work on any given day (either paper or electronic)

WHAT TYPES OF CONTACT COUNT?

  • Student communication in a chat, text (Remind app), or email
  • Phone call with the student. If your student is in grades K-5, a phone call with a parent or guardian also counts.

WHEN IS ATTENDANCE TAKEN?

Attendance will be taken every day in middle and high school by every teacher, in every class on your student’s class schedule.

WHEN IS MY STUDENT COUNTED ABSENT?

When there is no evidence that your student participated in an activity, or no evidence that your student contacted a teacher during a 24-hour period on a scheduled school day.

We understand that parents or guardians know that it is important for your student to have good attendance. Here’s how you can help:

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
  • Schedule medical appointments and vacations when school is not in session.
  • Keep an attendance chart at home. At the end of the week, reward your student for attending school every day.

We can help with Tri-Met transportation, housing, food, health, or other barriers to good attendance. Please call your school’s main office to tell us how we can help.  Click Here for community resources.
