If you thought you knew the story of “The Princess and The Pea,” you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir Harry provided a rather compelling reason that she reach the bridal altar post haste? Or that it wasn’t the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales the same way again.

Her prayers are answered when she goes to live with the Cuthbert siblings who never married or had kids of their own. When she arrives she expects open arms but the Cuthberts were expecting a young boy to work on their farm. Anne tries everything she can to convince them to keep her but her over dramatic personality always seems to get in the way. Anne is a heart warming story filled with themes of community and the love of family, no matter how different.
Spring Black Box - The Dining Room
Written by A. R. Gurney
Directed by Laura Steenson
May 10-11, 17-19 at 7pm
May 12, 19 at 2pm
The play is set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, the place where the family assembled daily for breakfast and dinner and for any and all special occasions. The action is comprised of a mosaic of interrelated scenes—some funny, some touching, some rueful—which, taken together, create an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species: the upper-middle-class. Dovetailing swiftly and smoothly, the varied scenes wind together, ultimately, into a theatrical experience of exceptional range, compassionate humor and abundant humanity.

Spring Black Box - Hamlet
Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Laura Steenson
May 11-12, 18-20 at 7pm
May 13 at 2pm
Prince Hamlet has been summoned back to Denmark from school in Germany to attend his father’s funeral. Once there, he is shocked to discover that his mother has already remarried – to his father’s brother, Claudius. Worse still, Claudius has claimed the king’s crown for himself, even though Hamlet was the rightful heir to the throne. Suspecting foul play, Hamlet takes it upon himself to discover what happened.
Traditionally, a pantomime would precede a play, helping the audience to understand the play that was to come. Following in this tradition, we performed Tom Stoppard’s The Fifteen Minute Hamlet each night preceding our performance of Hamlet. The Fifteen Minute Hamlet is produced by special permission with Samuel French.
