Hall of Fame Class of 2012

The first annual Reynolds School District Hall of Fame induction banquet was held November 17, 2012 at the IBEW Local 48 before a sell-out crowd of over 200 guests.  The class of 2012 included the following inductees:

Karin (Alderton) Kilburg

Karin played soccer, basketball and softball throughout her high school career at Reynolds; earning 12 varsity letters.  She was named a Mt. Hood Conference first team selection eight times, and made five all-state teams.  Karin has the distinction of representing Reynolds High School in six state title games, one each in basketball and softball, and four in soccer.  The highlight of Karin’s high school career may have been her senior soccer season in which the team won an unprecedented third consecutive state title, and she was named the Oregon State Player of the Year.  Karin attended Brown University where she was selected a team captain, earned All-Ivy League honors, and help the Bears win the four consecutive Ivy League crowns.

Chris Mueller

Chris began her storied teaching and coaching career in 1972, and since her arrival coincided with the enactment of Title IX, she is considered to be the founder of the girls’ athletics program in the Reynolds School District.  In 1972 alone, Chris started the volleyball and girls’ basketball programs, where served as head coach for 10 and 14 years respectively.  She also coached the golf team, and found time to act as the rally advisor from 1972 to 1974.  When softball became an OSAA sport, Chris became the head coach for 20 years before moving back to golf near the end of her career.  During her tenure, Chris was named coach of the year many times, her teams also won numerous conference titles, and the softball program made the playoffs in 17 of the 20 years she was the head coach.

Jerry Ross

Jerry began is began his career in the Reynolds School District in 1965, moved to the collegiate level in the mid-70’s for four years, returned to the district in 1978 and finished his career when he retired in 1992.  In addition to establishing himself I as a gifted and beloved teacher and coach, Jerry has the distinction of having worked at both Reynolds and Columbia.  During his tenure in the district, Jerry served as an assistant football coach for 21 years, head boys’ basketball for four years, head girls’ basketball for two years, assistant baseball for two years and head golf for 11 years.  He also stepped in as the interim girls’ swim coach for a season.

Robert “Butch” Woodward

Butch moved to Reynolds High School at the beginning of his sophomore year and immediately made an impact as a multi-sport athlete, excelling in football, basketball and baseball.  In this three years at Reynolds, Butch earned nine varsity letters and numerous all-league and all-state honors.  During his junior year, he a played a key role as a two-way starter on Coach Dutch Kawasoe’s, 1965 state runner-up football team.  As a senior, Butch was named the Lancer Athlete of the Year, and was selected to participate in the Shrine All-Star football game.  He went on to play football at the University of Oregon and Gallaudet University.

The 1985-86 Girls’ Soccer Team

The early to mid-1980’s was a special time for athletics at Reynolds High School, and no program was more dominate than the girls’ soccer team under the direction of head coach Joe Balla.  After finishing second in the state in 1979, Balla’s teams went on an incredible run; winning their first state title in 1980 and finishing second in 1982, before winning three titles in a row.  At the conclusion of the 1985 fall season, Reynolds High School established itself as the first girls soccer team to win three consecutive state championship trophies.  Team members include; Amy Alderton, Karin Alderton, Kris Anderson, Camie Brockmueller, Judy Dunford, Michelle Henry, Kristal Jerome, Angela Malatesta, Elizabeth Mayer, Becky Richards, Kim Sale, Shannon Smyth, Kris Wallace, Kristi Wiese, Kelly Zakrzewski, and coach, Joe Balla.
