Cold Weather Reminders

Reynolds School District - Oregon

It's that time of year when temperatures start to drop and we need to think about cold weather safety.  Here are a few tips:

  • Make sure the office has your contact information in case of school closures
  • Dress warm if you will be outside
  • Drain and wrap faucets
  • Set aside containers of water
  • Make sure you have enough prescription medicine on hand (for pets as well)
  • Locate flashlights and/or candles and matches
  • Have food on hand that can be eaten without heating
  • Dig out warm clothes and blankets/sleeping bags
  • Check on neighbors, especially the elderly and those with disabilities
  • If you have heat invite someone who doesn't to visit for a while

Every year, someone in our community suffers a house fire from unattended candles or fuel-fired heaters. Please be careful.

  • Use votives in glass containers
  • Don't use generators inside your home or garage

Family Warming Centers

If you come across homeless people or those without power, please have them call 2-1-1 for referrals to a Family Warming Center.  Our closest one for families in East Portland is the Family Warming Center at 12505 NE Halsey.
