Way to go, Speech & Debate Team!
RHS Speech & Debate Team recently competed in two tournaments against various East County high schools: Barlow, Centennial, Gresham, Madison, and Sandy. On March 5-6, Reynolds students debated at the PUDL Stumptown Competition, with juniors Destiny Tran and Jeff Cervantes Mendoza earning 4th place out of 11 teams and Tran achieving 2nd best speaker out of the 22! Furthermore, Tran and Cervantes Mendoza topped this success at the March 12th-13th Mt. Hood Conference district competition by achieving 1st Place out of all teams in Policy Debate! Tran and Cervates Mendoza will represent Reynolds at the OSAA State Competition at the end of April. Two other pairs of Reynolds debaters earned 3rd place and are alternates to state in Parliamentary and Policy Debate, respectively: junior Hayden Grindle and senior Simon Gerbaud, as well as juniors Amaya Benitez and Isabel Pagan. To round out Reynolds' success, Hayden Grindle and Jeff Cervantes Mendoza broke into finals in impromptu speaking, earning 6th and 7th Place respectively, while freshman Michael Gray was a finalist in Prose interpretation.
