BLOCK SCHEDULE INFORMATION

            We are pleased to announce that we will shift to a block class schedule starting in the 2023-2024 school year!

            Students will take four classes (1^st – 4^th period) on ‘A’ day and four classes (5^th – 8^th period) on ‘B’ day. Fewer classes each day allows for more time in the classroom, which increases the opportunities for students to interact with the material they are learning and receive support in real time. It also allows for more time to complete science experiments and projects in classes like STEM, broadcast journalism, leadership, and art. Students will only need to manage homework for four classes each night, instead of seven. Plus, adding an eighth class to their schedule will allow students to explore more educational opportunities through our expansive elective course offerings.

Block Schedule FAQ:

How long will each class be?

• Classes will be 65 minutes on Monday and 78 minutes Tuesday – Friday.

Will the school day start and end times change?

• Start and end times will not change.

Will Late Starts still be on Monday?

• Yes, classes will be shorter on Mondays to accommodate Late Start.

How many classes will my student take per year?

• Students will take eight classes each semester.
• Students will have a language arts period every day.

Will my student only have school every other day?

• No, all students will be in school every day.

What effect will block scheduling have on student discipline?

• Schools with block schedules report fewer discipline issues due to fewer transitions during the school day.
