Reading Soccer and Math

Reynolds School District - Oregon

How do you combine a love for soccer, a love for reading, and a love for math? Easy!

Wilkes students, families, and staff are playing a new kind of soccer this spring! Each classroom is a "team" that keep track of their reading minutes and do math problems. Each classroom is matched up with another classroom to compete against or "play against" as in a soccer game. Look for reading score sheets and math story problem in your child's backpack. The score cards are turned in and counted each Thursday. The winning classes for the week are announced at the daily afternoon announcement. Then each student is given a new score card. Each grade level is given a math story problem to complete and turn in on Thursday with the reading score cards. Each student can count the reading minutes of family members on their own score cards.

In the spirit of friendly competition, we read, read, read. We are like a giant family sharing the joy of reading. Join our Wilkes Soccer League and your child's team. Read. Read. Read.

We are Wilkes Scholars. We are learners. We are growing each day. We look forward to having YOU on our team! And don't forget to have fun with the math!
