Teacher Bio

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
This Chinese proverb reminds us that every journey has a starting point.
Whether or not your particular journey is just starting,
I look forward to being a traveling companion during our time together.
My name is Erik Salvail, and I’m a fifth grade teacher at Wilkes Elementary School.

About Me

Originally from Massachusetts, I moved to Oregon to attend Southern Oregon University where I received
a BFA in Sculpture.  Soon after graduating, I married my beautiful wife Sarah and we moved overseas
to teach for a few years in Indonesia and then Mexico.  After returning to Oregon, I worked with students with special needs for several years in the Reynolds School District and received my MAT from
Lewis and Clark College.  I then moved to Maui, Hawaii to become a member of the Wailuku Elementary Team.   I returned with my family, in the summer of 2015 to join the Wilkes Elementary Team and Community!  For the past three years, I have also been the very proud father of an amazing son, Max.

Expectations

I have always strived to make my classroom a place where creativity and growth are achieved
through teamwork, dedication, and respect for all the members of our classroom ohana.
Assignments always need to be completed on time,
and all classroom and school rules need to be followed without question.

I find that the best compliment you can give a person is the respect they deserve.
This can be for a teacher, student, parent, or friend.  I know we will all be complimenting
each other and growing to become better people during our time together.
