Physical Education

What's happening in physical education:

All third, fourth and fifth grade students are currently doing their fitness testing.

Here's an overview of the 4 components of fitness that are tested in Physical Education Class.  They are pacer test, push-up test, sit-up test and sit-n-reach test.  You can find a more detailed description of each test below.

Testing takes place in January and May each year.

Pacer Test

Pacer Test, measures Cardiorespiratoy fitness: Cardiorespiratory fitness is the ability of the heart and lungs to deliver oxygen-rich blood to working muscles during sustained physical activity.

Push-ups

Push-up Test measures muscular strength: Muscular Strength is the amount of force a muscle or muscle group can exert against a heavy resistance.

Sit-ups

Sit-up Test measures muscular endurance: Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle or muscle group to repeat a movement many times or to hold a particular position for an extended period of time.

Sit-N-Reach

Sit-N-Reach Test measures flexibility: Flexibility is the degree to which an individual muscle will lengthen. Stretching improves flexibility.
