SUN Community School

Reynolds School District - Oregon

The H.B. Lee SUN Community School program is one of 70 Community schools that provide year round after school academic support and enrichment classes for students each week of which 100% of the kids enrolled receive free meals and transportation.

SUN academic classes include math and reading academy, newcomer academy (for ESL students), and homework club. We feature science classes such as Destination Imagination, a science challenge club offering students opportunity to hone their creative science skills and Saturday Academy, who will be offering a 3D Character Modeling class involving PC graphics.

For students seeking cultural specific activities, we offer the Latino Club facilitated by Catholic Charities, SRB (Sisters Reflecting Sisterhood) and BRB (Brothers Reflecting Brotherhood) through Self-Enhancement Inc., and Latino Network’s Conexiones. Also featured are the Slavic club, hosted by NW Impact, focused on the needs of Slavic kids and families in our community.

Each of our clubs provides students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, strong connections to their school, and community.

H.B. Lee’s SUN Community School will continue to offer adult evening classes throughout the year.

The H.B. Lee’s SUN Community School is proudly supported by AmeriCorps.

We have made some great strides, but there is much more work to do. As our efforts intensify, we aim towards “Moving Lives Forward.”
