AVID Opportunity for 8th Graders

Families of H.B. Lee 8th Graders:

This year all 8th graders will be completing applications in Enrichment Class to participate in 9th Grade AVID at Reynolds High School next year.  In years past, interested students completed AVID applications and then went through an interview process with high school AVID Teachers.  Based on their applications and interviews, the top candidates were placed in AVID 9 classes.

However, this year because of the constraints of COVID-19, completing a formal interview process isn't quite possible.  Additionally, we know that many students who possibly would have been selected for AVID 9 in years past, chose not to apply.  We want to give everyone the same opportunity for selection into AVID.

AVID or Advancement Via Individual Determination is an international program with a track record of putting students on a pathway toward college and career.   In fact, in 2020, 95% of RHS AVID graduates were accepted into four-year colleges and universities and generated more than seven million dollars in scholarships.
