Volunteer Posting for Woodland SUN
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
SUN Community Schools are school-based delivery sites, which provide a comprehensive set of services including educational, enrichment, recreational, social and health services. Woodland Elementary is looking for dedicated volunteers to work with students during our fall programing. Come be a part of a team working with students grades 1-5 achieve academic success and participate in enrichment opportunities.
VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in teaching or lead a classroom in an enrichment activity such as art, science, movement, etc.
- Assist in monitoring transitions, recess, and lunch times
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
- English – bilingual Spanish preferred
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE (OPTIONAL BUT PREFERRED):
- Interested in developing, implementing, and facilitating classes for youth.
- Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated consistency in following instructions and implementing strategies
- Ability to be flexible and adaptive
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May require lifting and moving boxes and other items as needed (twist, bend, reach, carry items up to 20 lbs. and think strategically about how to properly move heavy items)
- Crawl or lie on floor or grass as appropriate for youth-centered activities
- Move rapidly from extreme positions, i.e. sudden standing from floor
TIME REQUIREMENT:
- Mondays –Thursdays 2:00pm- 6:00pm Starting mid October (additional terms to follow)
- Must commit to at least one day per week for full time period or 2 days per week for 2.5 hour minimum
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
- Undergo and pass a criminal background check
- Reliable transportation to school site.
