Alder Students Adopted by Area Colleges and Universities

Local colleges and universities are adopting students and classrooms at Alder Elementary School. The official adoption ceremony is scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2012 at 8:30 am at Alder Elementary School, which is located at 17200 SE Alder Street in Portland, Oregon. The adoptees will be visited by representatives from the colleges and presented with t-shirts. The classrooms will receive banners and pennants.

Mount Hood Community College is adopting the Alder Elementary kindergarten students. The first and second grade students are being adopted by Portland Community College and Concordia University. Lewis and Clark College is adopting the third grade students; and Linfield College is adopting the fourth graders. The Alder fifth grade students are being adopted by Portland State University.

Alder Elementary School is the Nation’s First Dreamer School. The Dreamer School Model expands the impact of “I Have A Dream” – Oregon’s past successes including doubling the high school graduation rates for the student dreamers. The goal of the Dreamer School Model is to: a) See 80% of Alder students finish a post-secondary degree or certificate at b) Raise achievement to 90% of Alder students meeting or exceeding the expectations of the Oregon benchmark tests in grades 3, 5 and 8.
