Meeting: Spring testing of second grade students for TAG eligibility
Date/Time: Mon, Mar 19th (All day)
Location: Wilkes
Second grade students will be tested this spring with the Raven Nonverbal Ability Test to screen for eligibility for Talented and Gifted services. The Raven is a nonverbal measure of reasoning and problem solving skills that can reveal strengths not always reported by typical school tests. The test items consist of abstract shapes and designs that are not unique to any cultural group to assure as best we can fairness and effectiveness with all students, regardless of their educational experiences, cultural backgrounds or spoken language. The Raven items were developed to assess ability without requiring the student to read, write or speak. If you have further questions about the Raven Nonverbal Ability Test please visit the Reynolds School District website http://www.reynolds.k12.or.us/dept/programs/tag/ and click on Raven FAQ.
Test results for the Raven Nonverbal Ability Test will be available to parents in April. If you have a question about your child’s score, please contact the classroom teacher. Parents will be notified in April if their child scores at or near the 97th percentile or higher for intellectual ability and asked to complete a Parent Nomination Form for Talented and Gifted services. At that time children will be further evaluated for eligibility for Talented and Gifted services.
If you do not wish to have your child take the Raven Nonverbal Ability Test please notify the principal before 3/16/12.
