Construction of the new Fairview, Troutdale and Wilkes elementary buildings is well underway. To allow work to begin on the playgrounds, fields, parking lots and other outdoor spaces, the old buildings must first be removed.

Demolition and abatement work on all three schools is expected to begin June 21, providing contractors the maximum time possible to work while students are on summer break. The process will start with abatement work and once that is complete the actual demolition work will begin.

You can watch demolition work happen in real-time via our live video feeds of the elementary schools:

Student Artists Take IT to the Streets

On May 30th WMMS Art students Anita Bondarchuk, Sierah Brown, Brooklyn Green, Brooklyn Stearns, and Sage Vu took IT to the streets! By "IT", I mean painting a beautiful "mural" for the City of Gresham. In just under six hours, these artists put their artistic skills to work to produce a public artwork that reminds people how connected we are to our rivers.

Please congratulate these amazing artists! They truly represented the great qualities that make Walt Morey students so incredible.

March/April construction update

Update from Bremik Construction
April 10, 2018

Hooray, it’s finally Spring! We hope you enjoyed your time off for Spring Break. Our team has been very busy at your new school! Staircases have been installed in the entry corridor, in the breezeway, and in area 3 classrooms. Fun Fact: Did you know that each of these steel staircases weighs around 12,000 pounds?! Roof top curbs have been set and the passive air shaft units have been installed. The curbs are for the HVAC equipment that supply the air and heat into the building.

News Release from Reynolds Sch. Dist.
Posted on FlashAlert: March 20th, 2018 3:24 PM

At approximately 2:20 pm today, March 20, 2018, there was the report of a fire on the rooftop of the new construction at Fairview Elementary in Fairview, OR. A small fire from roofing installation materials broke out on the roof of the newly constructed building. All students had been released from the existing building at 2:10 pm during regular release. Students were leaving the school in buses when the rooftop fire on the new construction was reported and staff remaining in the existing school were evacuated for safety. There were no after-school activities today, so all students had left the area. Portland Fire and Gresham Fire responded and put it out quickly. There was minor damage to one area of the new construction. There are no reports of injury and all students and staff are safe. Reynolds School District is extremely grateful for the quick action of our local fire response. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Field, Communications Coordinator, at Reynolds School District (503) 491-3428 or sfield@rsd7.net.

tour photo

May 2, 2018

Students at Troutdale Elementary School got a peek at their new digs Friday and liked what they saw.

Exclamations of "whoa" and "amazing" accompanied their entrance into the building.

"It was awesome," said third-grader Eleanor after the tour.

Peyton, another third-grader, said, "I thought it was really nice and big."

The students, decked out in pint-sized Day-Glo construction vests, had to use their imaginations because the new school is framed on the inside, but does not yet have walls.

Troutdale Construction Update

Update from Bremik Construction
January 25, 2018

"Happy New Year, Tigers! We have been very busy out here building your new school. A temporary roof has been placed over the gym and the stage to keep it dry so the weather barrier can be applied and the brick design can be placed on the outside. Plywood on the roof is being set in the classroom pod areas and once that is complete, another temporary roof will be installed so our crews can begin work on the building’s “skin”. We call it the skin of the building because it is the outside layer of the building that protects the inside, just like the skin on your body does for you!"

Troutdale Construction Update

Update from Bremik Construction
February 6, 2018

"Happy February, Tigers! This is the shortest month of the year, so make every day count - we sure will out here. The temporary roof in classroom area 3 has been installed to keep the building dry from the rain. With the temporary roof in place, the weather wrap barrier (Blueskin) is now able to be installed on the building’s exterior. If our crews tried to install the Blueskin before the roof was set it wouldn’t have stuck - the surface HAS to be dry! Plastic wrapping was put up to help with this, basically acting as a large tent to keep all of the moisture out."

Update from Reynolds 2015 Bond Project
November 20, 2017

Take a look at the photos and videos from last month's new science classrooms unveiling.

On Thursday, October 26, hundreds of RHS students attended classes in brand new, modern science classrooms. The classrooms include updated lab spaces with modern technology and is one small phase of the overall high school project. Funding for the new classrooms comes from the bond measure passed by community members in 2015. The bond work also includes replacing Troutdale, Fairview and Wilkes Elementary Schools; additional significant updates to Reynolds High School; and providing safety and security upgrades to all schools. All schools will be move-in ready by fall of 2018.

The sunny summer weather allowed construction companies to make good progress on the new school buildings in the Reynolds School District, but not quite enough to keep thousands of children from attending school in construction zones this year.

"The project teams, including district and building staff, have all been working closely to accommodate occupancy during construction," said Linda Florence, Reynolds superintendent.

Reynolds is building three new elementary schools — Troutdale, Fairview and Wilkes — while Reynolds High School is undergoing a major expansion and upgrade. All this is being paid for with money from a $125 million facilities bond that voters approved for the Reynolds School District in May 2015.

"Significant progress has been made with all phases (of construction), and the projects remain on track for completion in the fall of 2018," Florence said.
